When you’re shopping around for internet service, it can be confusing.
Typically providers will quote an “up to” speed.
In rural areas, you may see download speeds of “up to” 15 Mbps, perhaps even 25 Mbps and upload speeds of 1Mbps; with MagiNet™ we offer a maximum of 100 Mbps download or upload speeds.
“Up to speeds” means that if no one else is on the network, you should experience speeds at these rates. However – the truth is that many service providers have thousands of subscribers that you’re sharing the “up to” speed with; resulting in a lower speed at your home. When you read the fine print, you’ll see that “Up to speeds” are not guaranteed.
What you really need to look at are the minimum speeds because this is what impacts your Internet experience (without enough bandwidth, the experience leaves much to be desired – awkward frozen video calls with colleagues or several hours of buffering to watch one 30-minute show from Netflix.)
For example, we’ve seen download speeds from other providers drop as low as 0.3 Mbps. This kind of data rate makes checking Facebook or sending an email painful and streaming services out of the question (services such as Netflix recommend a minimum of 3 Mbps to stream in standard definition.) Add to all this, that upload speeds affect your ability to participate in virtual meetings (low upload speed make it hard to run a home business or participate in online learning or do any video conferencing.)
At Mage, we have Guaranteed Streaming Bandwidth™, ensuring that you can always do a lot more than surf the Internet, check your email or scroll social media. Our GSB is a minimum guarantee and means you will never have more than a certain number of customers sharing your bandwidth and that your speed will never drop below 7 Mbps.
How can we do this? Our 100 Mbps Data Pipeline will never have more than 14 customers on it; our 1 Gbps Data Pipeline will never have more than 140 customers on it. It doesn’t matter if the entire network has 200 or 2000 customers, we don’t cut corners on bandwidth and will purchase a minimum bandwidth that meets our GSB.
The wizardry of MagiNet™ is that we can easily increase the overall capacity of the whole network or of a branch of the network using our concept of New Bandwidth Introduction™ (NBI™). With NBI™, the investment needed grows with the number of customers we have. If, for example, a certain group of customers is being served by a 100 Mbps Data Pipeline exceeding the limit of 14, we would install a 1 Gbps Data Pipeline over the same path, enable that capacity, then take down the 100 Mbps devices to deploy elsewhere. So with almost no interruption in service and a small incremental investment of time and money, the 14 original customers can now be up to 140.
Using New Bandwidth Introduction™ (NBI™), the network gets upgraded whenever any of these factors change in a way that might impact the guarantee.
Recognizing our customers’ need for these critical services to operate at peak performance levels, Mage Networks has implemented GSB™, or Guaranteed Streaming Bandwidth™, to all Internet service offerings. The GSB™ ensures the MagiNet™ service delivers to all customers the guaranteed minimal bandwidth required to operate these essential services.
